Re: 'Greenest Government ever' plans to sell off nature reserves
Sounds awful. I have come to believe that the only defence against land being developed is ownership, the planning system is dysfunctional (or, in the case of a wood near me, has been completely overridden by a politician in favour of business).
There may be no money in nature reserves and forestry, but a lot of money in paving them over, or purchasing them to avoid objections to nearby development which might impact the area, or as a token green space to gain planning permission for the surrounding area.
Why is it that it is not possible for politicians to take the honest rout and raise income tax ? It was only reduced to its present level by the last Tory government in an attempt to cling to power, if my memory serves me.
Tory: from the Irish tóraí: outlaw, robber or brigand.
