Re: Hello from Hertfordshire
ha cool, from Hertfordshire to Herefordshire seems like a natural move
I really like Letchworth, I know its classed as a new town but there are some lovely old 'character' buildings too. We're home to the UK's first roundabout lol, and we have the famous black squirrel. I also like that I can walk for 5 minutes from the house and I reach open fields. The Ickleford Lavender Farm isn't far away and on a breezy summers day the air is filled with gorgeous lavender scents.

Re: Hello from Hertfordshire
Well, maybe this is the place to ask, since there are a few of each present. What's the pronunciation difference from Herefordshire to Hertfordshire??
Is it like HEARfordshire and HURTfordshire? Or a bit more subtle?

Re: Hello from Hertfordshire
Hertfordshie comes from "Hartford" and it is still pronounced like that. The place where the Hart (small deer) cross = Hartford and its the shire of said town!
I know these gems because I was born and "brought up" in Borehamwood !!!... and lived in Hitchin and Baldock. (All in Herfordshire for those of different nations, and the latter two are next to Letchworth)
Kramer - sounds like you have a garden then if you are in Letchworth.

I think you mean " all in Hertfordshire" Zoe!
Cm and I found it funny that we actually would have been at the same events, many times, long before we had ever met each other...
Herefordshire is pronounced Heh-reh-ford shire around here. Heh rather than Her or Here, if you get my drift.

Re: Hello from Hertfordshire
Very useful. Thanks. I'm a bit of an etymology nut. Maybe has something to do with the fact that people ROUTINELY mis-spell my last name. No, not the one on the username, lol.
