Pear / Apple Sauce
This is something that once I heard how to do it, I now make it every week to have a stash for the week. I'm so sick of all the additives and preservatives and corn syrup that they put in everything in the States, but especially all the extra sugar when it is really not necessary (dont even get me started on artificial sweetners!). Pears and apples are so sweet when you cook them that there is absolutely no need for more sugar.
Use about 5 pears and one apple, cut them into small cubes, cook them in a frying pan for about an hour. No need to use any oil, just add cinnamon, lemon juice and a bit of water to keep moist. Cook until they are soft, then mash them and store in the fridge. I use it on toast, in yogurt, on top of desert. It is so delicious and sweet, easy to make, really cheap ingredients and not full of sugar !

Hey
Welcome to the forum. So nice to find more North Americans getting tired of the HFCS that seems to be added to everything - it drives me mad when people complain about our obesity problem and then carry on slurping down that muck.
