I had the morning off today (school sports day !) so had lunch at home with Mrs C-H, and since I had three types of tomato, all red, medium sized varieties, I thought that for fun we might do a tasting !

Started out with Harbinger, which had a nice tomato taste, quite acid for those who like a bit of tartness to the taste. Quite good.

Next up,. Royale des Guineaux. Lovely colour throughtout, reasonably fleshy (I prefer fleshy to seedy), less acid, more rounded taste which somehow made me think of bacon ? Don't know why. Winner.

Finished with "Iowa" - not a named variety as such, but from Iowa via Heirloom tomatoes. Largest fruit, (maybe 2.5-3 in diameter), plant has a heavy crop too. Darker colour that the other too, but beaten into third place on flavour grounds. Not unpleasant, and a nice balanced flavour, but a bit bland compared with the other too.

Its still early in the season though, so I'll keep an open mind, but at this point it looks like Royale des Guineaux is top of the "grow again" list Very Happy
