Hi from Dublin.
I have been recently researching ways of extending my back garden wall for privacy. Maybe adding a trellis or fence with climbers.
But today I noticed my neighbour has built new boiler with discharging plumefrom the flue (about 12 inches from my wall) . Will I still be able to put up trellis and climbers do you think ? What plants would you recommend ?
Also would like to deflect plume as blows my direction.
Any help appreciated.

Hello and welcome, Summertime. If you are on good terms with your neighbour, ask them if they would consider having a plume management kit fitted to the flue. It would extend the flue in another direction, and away from your boundary.

The plume is mainly water vapour that you see, but it is slightly acidic, so won't do the foliage of plants any good. Plume management is the best way forward. Good luck.

Freebird ,relieved to hear about vapour being non toxic ,as a bit of a smell from it and not looking so nice. Will pick my moment to ask about plume kit as neighbour has been hard work over the years (law unto himself) !. But at least we are still on reasonable terms so want to keep it this way. One other thing , plume drifts unto bird feeders,table and nests. Will they be affected by this you think? Smile

The flue gases will smell a little, as although they comprise mainly water vapour and carbon dioxide, there are very small amounts of other gases as well.

The plume is acidic (roughly the strength of lemon juice). Would you consider misting your bird feeders etc with lemon juice several times a day? Probably not. I am only guessing here, but I can't think it will do the birds any good at all. If they were mine, I would move them.
