Made to measure dog coat
TA DAH!! The lovely Lola modelling her finished-at-last, made from an old quilted jacket, dog coat. It worked out a bit more expensive than I wanted as I found I hadn't any suitable bias binding for the edges, nor had I any fixings, apart from the buttons at the front. But now the poor, neglected and cruelly treated animal will be able to enjoy a crumb of comfort in her made-to-measure apparel.

That's brilliant - Lola looks really warm.
She looks a bit like a lurcher...?

She's a Rhodesian Ridgeback. A lot of people are fooled into thinking she is some sort of labrador cross, because she is a lot lighter than is currently fashionable for ridgebacks.

Re: Made to measure dog coat
Felt a need to make something else for Lola dog.
The man often goes out on his pushbike with her, and with the evenings getting darker, I thought something reflective might be a good idea. I had already picked up out the road a hi-viz XXL size vest and washed it. Turned out to be just the right size - bit of judicious snipping and only a very little sewing and 40 mins later this was the result. Not so elegant as the first coat I made her (beginning of this thread) but it does the job. Apologies for unflattering photo of dog - couldn't get far enough away so that it didn't distort. 'Stay' has never been one of her best commands....

Ingenious bit of recycling ! Very workmanlike
How does cycling with a dog work out ? The dogs I've met when on a bike have mostly been a bit of a hazard !

Re: Made to measure dog coat
She was a bit of a hazard at first, CH. But she paces herself with the bike really well now. On the streets she is of course on the lead - slack enough to allow a bit of pace variation but not enough to let her wander. If the man takes her into the local greenspace, then she's off lead and will often stop and sniff, then gallop to catch up.
And of course, ridgebacks were originally bred as hunting dogs, to run alongside hunters on horseback.

Great use of a find. Those reflective strips are brilliant. I was driving one very dark night and was puzzled by what appeared to be fluorescent tennis balls bouncing up and down at the side of the road some way ahead. When I caught up it was a man taking 4 dachshunds for a walk and they each had a reflective circle on the end of their coat. Very effective at drawing attention to the fact that something was there.

Have been somewhat absent lately so having a catch-up. Love the recycled dog coats! There's no way my dog would be safe on a lead near a bicycle, he's a bit of a weaver.
And as for bouncing tennis balls - hilarious
