Seed swap 2013
If anyone in the UK is interested in joining the seed swap please let me know. I have a large envelope of packets of seeds ready to go! I'll wait until the end of January before sending them out - as far as I know there are no varieties which need to be planted before then.
I wonder if we could enlarge our number through the seed swap? If you know anyone who would like to join in and/or have a suggestion for changing the way we do the swap please don't stay silent!

Re: Seed swap 2013
Hello,
I joined today - would I be able to participate in the seed swap? I grow lots of heritage varieties and have plenty of seeds to swap with others.
What do I need to do?

Re: Seed swap 2013
Thank you - I'd like to take the credit for being self sacrificing Chilli Head, but I do get to have a good look at what everyone has put into the pack of seeds when it finishes going round and ends up at my house again (Mwahahaha!!!)
Jude - of course you're able to participate! You need to PM me with your name and address. When we start the seed swap going towards the end of January I'll send the pack of seeds to the first person on the list. I then PM them with the address details of the next person and they post it to them. This continues until it's gone round everybody. That way people only ever have one name and address - it's thing of trust but it has always worked well in the past. People take out anything they are interested in and replace it packets of seeds they have left over. Some of us are organic and others less so - there are no restrictions to the types of seeds you can put in (well, I suppose they should be legal...!) We don't really mind seeds which are just out of their 'sow by' date either. It tends to be mainly veg, but we seem to be branching out into flowers. (I sowed a whole packet of Sweet Williams from seed swap seed last year - unfortunately my chickens got into the flower garden and have scratched most of them up! Luckily I bunged the ones left over into a tub so I have something to show for it!!)

Re: Seed swap 2013
Forgot to say - the envelope of seeds cost about £2 to post last year - it'll be more this year as postage has gone up.

Re: Seed swap 2013
No hurry Jude - we'll give you fair warning when it's on its way to you! When it left my hands yesterday (when Mr D kindly took it to the post office) it was mainly vegetables with one or two packets of flower seeds in. I went through it before I posted it (I hung on to the seeds that were returned at the end of the seed swap last year) - I turfed out any carrots which had been opened and were a bit old as I don't think they germinate as well. I also turned out a few very old things - I know that archaeologists have germinated seeds they've found on iron age sites, but that's probably for specialists, so anything pre-2008 has gone.
When I got the seeds last year I passed them round a few gardening friends at school because I thought that the more people who swap seeds the better as it increases the chances of getting more varieties.
What we've done for the past few years is to post on here when the pack arrives then I'll PM the address of the next person to send it to when you've finished with it.

Dandelion, have you got me on the list? I expressed my interest in the tea room rather than here, so if it was overlooked, can you add me to the list please? You might already have my address, but let me know if you need it again.

Re: Seed swap 2013
If you can PM me your address, Warlock 1 (can I call you W1 for short???) I can put you on the list to get the pack of seeds.
How did your Uchi Kurui do? I treid it for the first time last year but it probably wasn't the best year for squashes, and all I ended up with was one fruit. (Tasted good though!) Funnily enough, I also tried spaghetti squash for the first time too, which was more productive. Have found that the fruits have kept well in an unheated room - have just one more to use up.

It's probably better to let them know so they're looking out for it (Our postman sometimes chucks stuff over the back gate, so if we're expecting a parcel we keep a look out for it!) Shall I let you say who it's going toAJB??
