Manx Quilting
This is my 'what I have done' so far this year. If you've not come across Manx quilting before it is a traditional log cabin type of block but it doesn't have any batting (wadding). The strips of fabric are folded & so the layers of fabric give the finished quilt it's warmth. It is all sewn by hand with a continuous running stitch & the good thing is that the stitches don't need to be small & it doesn't matter if the line wobbles (though of course mine are all small & dead straight!) because the fabric is not folded back on the stitch line. Once the strips are cut it is easy to piece by eye & keep a perfect square. It's a good thing to take somewhere or sit in front of the telly with as all you need are some strips of fabric, needle & thread, 4 pins & a small pair of scissors. It takes me about two hours to stitch one block.
I nabbed a lady at the Craigneash Folk Museum on the IOM on a very wet afternoon when there were hardly any visitors & got her to show me how to do it. I hope my picture attaches ok otherwise this won't make much sense. The cushion cover is the first bit I did a couple of years ago to experiment. The blocks on the back of the sofa are the ones I am currently doing & I haven't got any idea yet what I am going to do with them. I'll see how many I end up with. It's probably best suited to scrap fabric as it uses quite a lot - only a third of each strip can be seen in the finished block.

Re: Manx Quilting
I think what we need here is a pictorial step-by-step how-to tutorial........

Yes, I think I can see from the full sized photo how it is done, but I'm not completely sure.
I do like the cushion.

Re: Manx Quilting
I have dug up this thread because I have been stitching a few more blocks - it's a winter thing, I can see that I posted the original in January of last year. I still have no idea what I am going to do with them or how many I will end up with but I am up to 12 and I thought I would put them together in various configurations for you to see the numerous possibilities (there are more). They're only laid out roughly on the table. I hope a picture will pop up below.

They are absolutely beautiful - I love the colours, and the fact that you can play around and do different things with them.
Somewhere (...) I still have the quilt I started when OH and I were engaged, oooh, it must have been well over 36 years ago. It still isn't finished!
