Tomatoes 2014 Empty Tomatoes 2014

So i've had a look in a few older topics, looks like all of you grow lots of different tomatoes.

So here is my question: what tomatoes are you growing this year and to what purpose? Salad, salsa?

I don't know yet, though i have already planned 4 tomatoes in my raised bed.

I grow a few tomatoes every year. This year I have:

Franchi Red Pear
San Marzano
Sugary Tom
Zlatava
Costoluto Fiorentino
Yellow Perfection
Royale des Guineaux

These are in the greenhouse; I've also sown some Red Robin, a very dwarf outdoor variety for pots on the patio. I always get blight on outdoor tomatoes, so I go for a small variety in pots so they can come indoors later in the season.

I grow them primarily to use fresh, but have a passata press from Seeds of Italy, which despite being plasticy, works rather well. We freeze surplus as passata for pasta sauces. The San Marzanos are just for passata; they are very fleshy and help to thicken it up.

Like Chilli Head, my outdoor tomatoes get blight as well. Last year I grew blight resistant varieties outside - Legend and Ferline, but we had a good summer so they weren't really put to the test. I made some passata, dried some of them and bottled the rest. I also grew Red Cherry in the greenhouse, and these were just for eating raw. I grew a very early variety called Latah in the greenhouse for three years, which I also used just for eating raw.

I also don't grow outdoor tomatoes because of blight. I also have a problem getting tomatoes with much flavour in the greenhouse because of where I live - we are a bit lacking in sun. So, I try different varieties each year to try & find something that works for me. I always grow Sungold because it is consistently brilliant. I'm doing Black Cherry for the second year because it did quite well last year. The others I have for 2014 are Belle (F1) & some heritage varieties - Isis Candy, Red Brandywine and Fence Row Cherry. I grow them for immediate eating but if I get a glut I make a sauce or chop them & freeze.

I like the sound of a passata press - I think I'll look into that.

I have a mixture of varieties to grow outside and in pots in my shed. (The shed has a plastic roof so it's very light.) I have some Franchi Red Pear, Alicante, Black Russian, Black Cherry, and Tumbler (which do well in pots). I also have some mystery tomatoes - they came free with a seed order, and the packet contains one each of about ten varieties. Who knows what will grow??

Wow so many different types of tomatoes.
I grow mine outsider and usually don't have any issues.
I think this year i am going to go with productivity, although we really like rose de Berne. I'll have to see what seedlings i can get but that won't be before mid-may.
