Fabric Xmas Decorations

Here are the instructions - I'll post the picture again for completeness.

Cut 6" - 7" circles from 2 different fabrics (I drew round a tea plate)
With right sides together join all round with a 1/4" seam leaving a small opening
Turn right side out through the opening and topstitch all round about 1/8" from the edge which also closes the opening. (this is the only fiddly bit because you have to pull out the seam join with a needle as you would when turning a collar or cuff right side out).
Folding the circle in half to find the points, mark the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o clock positions on the edge of the circle with pins or chalk.
Using a needle & thread catch together the 12 & 6 o clock positions and then (without cutting the thread) the 3 & 9 o clock positions. The fabric that is on the inside will be the colour of the 'petals'. I left the thread attached to stitch a star in the centre at the end. Like so:

With a bit of wiggling, fold back each of the four loops of fabric and finish with something suitably decorative in the middle.
Voila:

They look really nice Ploshkin. When you sew the two circles together, do you notch the seams to stop them puckering when you turn them inside out?

No Freebird, because it's only 1/4" seam & cotton it doesn't need it at all.
I think my 1/4" foot is one of the most useful things I have with my sewing machine. When I bought the machine the chap in the shop couldn't give me any discount on the price as it was fixed. I had asked to buy a 1/4" foot for the machine and he gave it to me for nothing.
