The poor old Panasonic breadmaker broke at the weekend. It is the old SD253, the first one with the automatic raisin dispenser. Looking at the comments on newer models on line, I see a lot of people wishing they'd kept the old one because the newer models just don't make such good bread. We've had ours a good 10 years, making a loaf every other night, and pizza dough weekly. That's quite a bit of work !

Anyway, the failed part was the plastic coupler at the bottom of the machine that turns the paddle in the pan. Happily (and kudos to Panasonic) it is still available as a spare part from espares - I"ve just fitted the new bit, and it ought to go for a bit longer. Lots of other plastic bits look very tired though, so I doubt we'll get another 10 years from it Sad

Well done CH - and ten years these days is pretty good for white goods. My daughter did a module when she was at art college on product design and built-in obsolescence: she was shocked to find out that components are deliberately designed to give white goods a short life. I think what shocked her was that it was carefully calculated so that things would break down relatively quickly.
