Renaming the hen "Tikka" Empty Renaming the hen "Tikka"

Post by Zoe 23rd May 2010, 6:08 pm

Although we are both vegetarians and I, through my faith, do not like to eat meat we have decided that the non laying hens, when still healthy should be despatched into meat portions to be made into curry! This will be for "high-days and holidays" (probably when my son is visiting!) and we are only talking 3 hens a year.

To us it makes financial sense and closes the cycle on these birds.

But, like leaning the chainsaw up against a non productive fruit tree seems to trigger some sort of alarm that gets it back into production, renaming the first hen inline "Tikka" has triggered the egg laying ablility again (very thin shelled but she has stopped eating it!)

So the chicken curry thoughts will have to go on hold for a bit...

Funnily enough when I did this with Attilla the Hen, she immediately started laying again and stopped egg eating, also..........

Renaming the hen "Tikka" Empty Re: Renaming the hen "Tikka"

Ours did this earlier in the year but have become complacent again recently.
Am about to get a dozen more so may off a few of the existing ones just to keep the others on their toes.

I wouldn't use old laying hens for curry though. Too tough.
