Articles - an idea Empty Articles - an idea

Post by Adrian 6th August 2010, 1:39 pm

Some of you who know me on facebook may have picked up on my "discussion" with the Environment Guardian about the nature and quality of their Green Living articles - to whit, I think that they are lazy and patronising and at best to be hand wringing middle class puff pieces, little more than a nod to the greenies who read the Graun...

So here is my idea.

I am thinking about copy/pasting all the Guardian Green Living articles here and then challenging you, our very talented membership, to rewrite them, better, more in depth and with more use and information than the current daytime tv style offerings of the Graun...

This is not an exercise in spite, merely proof that it can be done - something to show the Environment Guardian editor that there can be informative and entertaining writing that doesn't patronise its readers nor baffles them with jargon...

Thoughts anyone?

Do we need to disable our spellcheckers?

Sounds a good challenge, Badger.

Hum, I think that the Grauns lack of spell check is enough...

I've just reached a point where I can stand no longer the Doom and Gloom of the "we're all damned" or the saccharine sweet optimism of "lets buy a green thing and save the planet"...

I think we can do better, be good examples, showing that by making good choices we can have a reasonable, C21st, HiTech life without destroying human civilisation, that greener/simpler living isn't about forcing everyone back into caves to bang the rocks together or holding hands, singing cheerful songs and waiting for a magical scifi future... There has to be a balance somewhere and we have a good balanced practical membership to demonstrate that balance...

Bugger, thats the bit I've been looking forward to! (totally off topic, but most of my friends would say I'm a hippy now, just because I no longer own a car and I grow some stuff in the garden!)

Sounds like a great idea though, I love picking faults in journalists work.
