Unusual sandwich fillings
Do you have an unusual filling for a sandwich, maybe a well-kept family secret?
I'll kick off with a sandwich we used to have when we were kids, Bounty sandwich. Any sort of bread with chocolate spread (or nutella) and a sprinkle of dessicated coconut.

Re: Unusual sandwich fillings
My mum's good freind in our old home years ago had a husband who'd make a sandwich of just thick sliced onion. Sometimes he'd have fried fish tails with it as well, if they were on from a previous meal. I imagine Joy must have loved that man dearly to get over the "aromatic" nature of his eating habits, lol.
I've been known often to add mashed potato to a sandwich of leftover meat loaf or roast. Sometimes cold oatmeal for a mid day snack (left from brekkies). Yes, I make mine thick enough to slice, lol.

Ohhh yes, cold mashed potato sandwich, not had one of those for ages
with English mustard spread on top
will have to make some mash for tea
just remembered, my sister used to make cream cracker sandwiches, basically a jam buttie with a cream cracker in the middle

Re: Unusual sandwich fillings
Some friends of ours used to make 'chunion' sandwiches - grated cheese and grated onion mashed together. You can do it with cheese and celery too - I suppose it's called 'chelery'!!

Re: Unusual sandwich fillings
I thought egg and onion was rather commonplace. Maybe with a bit of mayonaise and mustard. Maybe that's just me though.

Re: Unusual sandwich fillings
My brother developed strange tastes as far as sandwiches were concerned when he was at school, and did sailing after school in the local gravel pit. None of the other kids brought any snacks with them, and they used to take his, so in the end he took sandwiches filled with Sainsburys pork breakfast sausage and lemon curd (together!)

vegemite, avocado and mung beans with a touch of cheese melted on top
When i was pregnant i would eat potato salad, chicken avocado and cheese. I've never tried though whilst not being pregnant so don't know what it's really like

Re: Unusual sandwich fillings
As a teenager I used to eat peanut butter, marmite and cheese sandwiches, but I now feel that was a bit over the top. (Tasty though!)

Re: Unusual sandwich fillings
BUMP! Resurrecting another old thread....!
Cream cheese & Jam - all time favourite, also works well on cracker, ryvitas etc.
Cheese and vinegar (I guess this is the similar to the cheese & salad cream approach?)
OH is a fan of the leftover chilli sandwich, cant say it works for me tho!
