Quick Gifts Empty Quick Gifts

Ever need a gift in a hurry or a raffle prize.

Apart from the obvious cooked things like jams, pickles & chutnys, how about some ideas.

I know few people actually write these days, but just sometimes a handwritten note is just the thing.

Buy a set of pretty paper or notelets & envelopes, open the box & slip the whole lot into an airtight box. Moisten a small ball of cotton wool with some essential oil & put in with the paper making sure the ball does not touch the paper, seal it up & in a couple of months you will have some really nice perfumed paper & envelopes.

Really works.

A pencil, pen, ruler and a notepad ( add other things as wished - a mousemat, a bigger note pad, a pencil case etc...) made from 100% recycled materials. Tied up with a reused ribbon with an obviouslt homemade and recycled gift tag, it makes an interesting and talk- about able gift!

A variation on Pol's suggestion is to print notepaper with decorative rubber stamps for instance, and give with matching envelopes.

I like giving food as gifts, especially for people who seem to have everything! A decent bottle of olive oil wrapped around with raffia and with some home-grown rosemary sprigs and maybe a wooden spoon.

When doing the shopping or browsing, it is often possible to buy small travel or trial pots of make up or bath/shower bits or lotions etc. Make a collection of these, make a nice box or bag & a nice pressy for someone.

A nice gift for someone in hospital for longish time is things like lip balm, moisteriser tissues a small but very welcome little package.

For a new Mum or elderly relative, a chequebook of things that you are willing to do for them, like shopping or babysitting or weeding the garden etc, also handy for someone who has had an accident.

It doesn't have to be an expensive gift to show people that you are thinking of them. When my cousin was in hospital after an operation I wanted to send her something - I didn't have much money, but I thought that if it was me I would really need some chocolate. So I sent her two big bars of chocolate, thinking she would probably think I was a bit strange, but it turned out to be just right.

Absolutly, sometimes the best gift of all is a little bit of time.

If like a lot of us your craft stash keeps growing, as a gift for someone else who is crafty, just go through the stash & pick out a selection of trimmings, ribbons etc I love things like that.

For little girls that are still little girls a selection of costume jewellry & the bracelet elastic would be good.

A nice mug packed with goodies.

For kids pencils, rubbers or mini toys etc

Ladies, tissues, small smellies, small accesories etc.

For men well whatever the man is interested in.

The combination is endless & could be just about anything.

I always like the idea of giving someone something that they just wouldn't buy themselves despite wanting to (normally due to financial constraints) so something like some nice chocolates (or even just a bar of chocolate) is lovely as are things like bath foam, nail varnish etc.

Sometimes older people like things such as a colouring book & crayons. Not something that they would buy themselves but something they loved doing when they were children. You can buy some nice books too.

If you can afford it, a subscription to a magazine.

For a cook, a selection of recipes.

For younger people or people who are going to uni some cookery lessons.

Could be, but some centres, clubs do little groups. One of our funny little churches do a course. Problem with home ones is that a lot of people no longer know how to cook economically!!
