ReRoof + Solar Panels... Empty ReRoof + Solar Panels...

We are thinking of/needing to get Sparhawk towers reroofed, in the absence of any "localised hurricanes" we are most probably going to have to pay for it ourselves, would it be worth us getting solar panels installed at the same time, if so which, I am thinking hotwater/heating ones, they would have to pay for themselves within 15 years... & if anyone could give a ball park figure so that we could begin to get our heads around I would be grateful...

Spar they will pay for themselves a lot sooner than that...

Ours cost about £1500, but we did have the scafolding up anyweay ( with the roof being done) and CM did the drsign and install ( being a certified fitter...)

We get £130 pa back from Good Energy as part of their HotRocs scheme ( they just give us money for what they deem we have saved in oil!) and it has saved us a lot of oil due to having hot water from it on tap

We are getting all our hot water needs from it at the moment, n Nov/Dec it was getting the tank up to 40 ish so helping the boiler.

but now it is doing it all..and will do so unttil the winter..

Between the solar thermal, using the woodburner lots more and the improved insulation all over the house and roof, this last year we have reduced our oil consumption by half.... ReRoof + Solar Panels... Icon_biggrin

I suggets you have a look on the Navitron forum...lots of installers on there and lots of people who are experts at it...good forum that!

I am surprised your system was so inexpensive CW. I would have thought more in the region of £5 or 6k.

Another option would be PV tiling, Spar - Redland have some interesting new ones.

It would definitely be worth looking into the new PAYS system whatever you decide on - this means you can borrow the money for the installation from the Govt over 25 years and pay it back from the fuel savings.

Also if you have PV you would be eligible for FITS.

Do the panels go straight onto the roof battens or are they over the roof tiles/slates (these days!)?

Panels go over tiles. PV tiles are the tiling themselves so go straight onto battens - although not exactly nailed to wood battens in the usual way lol.

We used a supplier nearby in Upton, the make were Economical, who make good stuff ! The cost included all the plumbing, controller, new tank etc ....CM

It was actually £1616.47, apparently. I have just been corrected told. ReRoof + Solar Panels... Icon_rolleyes

Do you know any much about these PV tiles?
Are they better than panels (assuming you want your roof done anyway?
