Our own pond Empty Our own pond

Well actually it belongs to friends, but we now have a pond.

As you know, we have been having some work done in our garden recently which has involved some fairly big changes (which is quite a lot in a small garden) We've actually increased the amount of paved area and shrunk the lawn, which doesn't sound very green, but makes the garden more usable. We have removed a path and replaced it with stepping stones in the grass though.

One of the things we have wanted in the garden for some time was a pond, but we couldn't work out how to fit it in - now we have. Let me explain:

Friends of ours have recently moved house. They are on their way to a new house with a garden but in the meantime are living in flat without a garden. we offered to look after any pots they need giving temporary homes. Several weeks ago they drew up with a collection of pots in the back of their car.

One of the pots turned out to be a pond. It didn't have a lot of water in it on arrival , but it did have some reeds and we topped it up and put it in place. We were told that it had had a water lily, but they thought it had died - a couple of weeks ago (last time I was able to look) it looked as if the water lily is growing back.

So, when we have returned said pond, we will buy our own large pot and create our own pond. I think this is a brilliant idea.

Go for it, JG - it's amazing how much wildlife you can encourage with even a tiny pond. It sounds as if your garden is really coming together (piccies when finished???)
