Made sweet & sour pork & sweet & sour chicken. 1 to freeze & 1 for tomorrow.

Also a pot of leek & potato soup for tea with a cheese roll.

At least with the oven on it is a bit more warmth to spread.

A cockerel pecked Maxwell this morning.

We are having chicken pie for supper.

There is a connection between these two statements.

Made a sausagemeat loaf, a beef casserole & enough roast meat for 2 extra meals as well as a full roast for today.

That means another 4 meals for the freezer. Well happy as it saves gas as well. whats on the menu - Page 21 855195

Game pie - leftover rabbit from yesterday, venison, wild duck and pigeon in a gravy made from the rabbit and venison stocks reduced down with orange zest and redcurrant jelly. Mashed carrot and swede with stilton and horseradish mashed potato on the side. Apple crumble for pudding. With clotted cream.

My friend Christain the posh chef came over today, somewhat unexpectedly, bringing a spider crab which was delicious. I managed to rustle up some pickled venison tongue, mutton ham and roast pork with braised peas and cabbage in marjoram sugo in an attempt to appear cheffy enough.

I found 2 steaks yesterday, so we had them with all the trimmings. I peppered mine & it was really nice.

Today is cottage pie from the freezer, as we have a concert tonight & I do not need to be doing too much.

Have absolutely not an inch of space in any of the freezers and yet another two deer hanging outside so going to be venison opn the menu today. And tomorrow. and for a few days. Will have to find cunning ways of disguising it as family tolerance of venison generally gets stretched after third or fourth consecutive meal.

Note to self: leave the deer population alone for a couple of weeks.

Leek and potato soup, using the pathetically small leeks I managed to grow last year. They were ravaged by leek moth and the lack of rain, they are fiddly to wash and prepare, but I'm cheering myself up by thinking how much I would have paid if I'd bought them from Waitrose as baby leeks!!

Years ago, just after rationing finished, our butcher used to make what he called steaklets. They were just minced beef with seasoning in them but we did used to like them.

I tried to make some for lunch today & they were quite nice. Just like burgers but without the onion & spice. Had chips & garlicetype mushrooms with a sour cream & chive dip. Definately going to try them again
