Re: whats on the menu
I netted mine so well against the birds that I'm having trouble picking them myself!! I have had some poultry assistance when picking them, but sadly the chickens don't put many in the colander...

Re: whats on the menu
Tonight will be my first go of the season at one of my favourite meals. It is loosely based on an Indonesian vegetable curry, and involves a mildly spiced coconut milk based sauce, to which vegetables are added in order of how long they need to be simmered.
My extra bit of fun with this dish is that I have the added rule that it should only involve vegetables from the garden/lotty

Re: whats on the menu
Hum. Ok, I make exception for the coconut and some of the spices. For now . But the onion, garlic, chilli, cabbage, carrots, beans, mangetout and potatoes are all my own work. I may have my own corriander seed later in the year, assuming it bolts as usual ...

Re: whats on the menu
Limited to what I can cook on top of the cooker since the ovens blew up so today we are having parmesan and parsley crusted Schnitzel with lotty new potatoes and lotty broad beans.
Re: whats on the menu
Today for lunch we had a roast leg of local lamb, new pots, broad beans, sugar snap peas, parsnips from the freezer ( which were very heavily frozen in the winter and taste of honey) and courgettes in a tomato and parmesan sauce.
and a glass of home made wine.
Everything except the lamb was home grown
I could get used to re arranging my day so we cook mostly while the PVs are generating

Er, no, it is electric...
It was a joke, CW.
Re: whats on the menu
But how would I know it was a joke? I can't "see" your face or "hear" your voice, so I have nothing else to go on...
but ha ha , very funny....
Am being smug, yes . I know. But it is SO great to generate renewable electric and export it to other people! AND not pay for the stuff we are using, in the daytime!
having the oven on for 2 hours to cook the lamb was something we just would NOT have done, in the weekday, daytime, normally.

it is, JG, oh it is.
Sorry am going on about the PV's again....but honestly it is SO great! All that hard work and effort and money..but immediate , tangible paybacks, both financial, ethical and just feel good stuff...
and this time of year it is so good to just go and dig/pick stuff for dinner...we have just come out of the "hungry gap" where all we had fresh was mainly kale and other assorted brassicas, and onions, garlic, carrots, potatoes ( going limp) from the store, and various dried/frozen stuff from last summer's harvest. Good food, but it all gets a bit boring and to be able to go and make a different meal every night from what is ready in the veg plot is such a delight!....

The and the fact I have no idea what your oven is didn't give it away? Oh well. It's the way I tell 'em.
Re: whats on the menu
Ah well....I am poorly so have a sense of humour failure, anyway!
But having the "free" elec, while cooking with an elec oven , is a great thing as if we change our mealtime habits we use a heck of a lot less elec, because in the daytime we are making our own!
How is Bea now Billy? and how are you?

Re: whats on the menu
I've got trout, new potatoes and crudites with aioli. I cooked beetroot and green beans and chopped the carrots. Should be good. We've got it tomorrow as well so it had better be.

Re: whats on the menu
Home made quiche ( home grown eggs, spinach and onion as well...) spuds, beans, toms, cucumber and herbs
the only stuff not home grown was the milk, the flour and the butter.
I want a house cow.....
