Re: whats on the menu
We had fresh goose blood fried with onions and boiled potatoes. It was scrumptious.

Re: whats on the menu
Just made
2 cottage pies
2 sweet & sour chicken
2 bacon rolls.
That will keep us going & hopefully give me some "me" time over the next couple of weeks.

Re: whats on the menu
Had the goose itself last night, stuffed with couscous, rosemary, chillies, shallots, apple and walnuts with braised red cabbage, celeriac puree and plain mash and a gravy from the slow cooked gizzard and neck bone.
As a starter we had Collo di Locio Ripieno - the goose neck stuffed with the heart and liver, minced pork tenderloin, parsley, breadcrumbs and a little grated pecorino.
Pavlova with the last of the autumn raspberries for pudding.

Last night was one of those using up bits of stuff kind of meals. 3 small potatoes, a leek, 1/4 of a cabbage, some frozen sweetcorn, a small piece of smoked haddock that was lurking in the back of the freezer, a dollop of creme freche and a sprinkling of smoked paprika made a lovely soupychowder concoction with enough left over for today

Re: whats on the menu
Today... I made a tomatoey, bacony, cheesey, pasta bake thing. Loosely based on a recipe I found in a magazine, and with homegrown tomatoes.
I thought it was too salty, from the bacon, so I couldn't really taste the tomatoey much, but everyone else seemed to like it. I might try again some time with beef mince rather than bacon chunks.

Re: whats on the menu
I have just cooked, and eaten, probably the best liver and bacon I have ever had. We have a superb butcher in the next town; real old-fashioned shop, with old fashioned service. The queue at Christmas time is always half way down the street.
So a melting piece of lamb's liver, still pink inside, free range, dry cured smoked back bacon, and homegrown veg. I still have the taste of it in my mouth as I type.

Those puddings with a bit of this and a bit of that are a treat! It's like a surprise in every bite!
Mother Hubbard's cupboard is rather bare here today. Need to do some cook ahead and re-stock the freezer. I'll be looking through posts here for inspirations. Steak & kidney puds sounds good!

Re: whats on the menu
Casserole are also good to cook & freeze in portions,as is cottage pie or lasagne or curry. I also do bacon rolls, so a mixed choice.

That sounds wonderful KL!! Here in the UK it's damp and grey, with a heavy overcast sky, so it'll be oven roasted vegetables for tea - maybe I'll dig up some celeriac to go with the parsnips and things. And we'll have the stove on to cheer us up.

Re: whats on the menu
For the first time ever, I am cooking rabbit stew. Doing it in the slow cooker using the stock I made the other day with chicken bones, so fingers crossed.

Stew was OK, but both OH & decided we did not want rabbit again.
Today did a casserole with stewing steak & a tin of condensed mushroom soup, it has a great flavour.

tonight i went out with some mums and my daughters teachers for a lovely Thai dinner.
was so great seeing the last 4 night we've had cold meats and salads either as a picnic in the yard or picnic at the park cos the weather is just far too humid to cook anything

Re: whats on the menu
Made Wonton Soup for supper. Not from scratch, but frozen made ones. Wanted to see if I'd get the hang of the soup before making up a whole batch of wontons. Seems once I get started, I wind up with six gross before it's all said and done, lol. Love dumplings.
Anyway, the finished product was quite good. Can't wait to try it with my own dumplings next time!

Re: whats on the menu
Apart from cheesey tomatoey toasties (homegrown tomatoes) for lunch, I cooked a cheese, onion, bacon, and potato pie for everyone for dinner. It's just in the oven cooking now.
I just took the lid off and turned up the oven and if I do say so myself, it smells quite tasty!
