My biggest bargain was a kitchen table I found for £8 at our local recycling centre. I only went to drop off some plastic wrap and came away with a fantastic addition to our kitchen.
Oooh how I wish we were allowed to "buy" stuff from our HWS....we are strictly verboten from taking ANYTHING,,,,,,,,,

Sparhawk also flatters the ladies in the shops so that they think he is a nice polite young man. Which he is.

Re: Charity Shop Bargains...
Went round three yesterday and apart from a "baby manual" for Mr C nothing else. Oh well - keep looking. Maybe next week I'll head out to some new to me charity shops that someone's told me about on the other side of town.

Ahhh. Charity shops. Let's see, a recent find was a cast iron spong bean slicer for £1.50, a very nice big gripstand bowl for £4.00 (a replacement for a much adored one the other half managed to break last year), ermmm... multitudes of useful and sometimes obscure books on plants and herbalism, cast iron cookware, wicker baskets, etc. etc.
Oh I dunno, there has been loads of great stuff over the years! Thank the Gods for bootfairs fleamarkets & charity shops. I love 'em.

I picked up a lovely East t.shirt a couple of years ago for £3.50 - it would have cost at least £30 new. Am tempted to wear it with the East label hanging out (but I cut the British heart Foundation label off - vanity!!)

Saturday, brand new genuine Levi 501 jeans £7 (Although the legs were longer than the 30" as stated, but I'll use my "£15 hand cranked old Singer" sewing machine to take them up)...

Are the M&S books the kind which come with a little sample of the food stuck to the front cover? That's the sort I generally avoid! I've got a load of M&S books which I bought when first married which have brilliant recipes in, and I wouldn't be without them - I don't mind if the spots of food on the front cover is stuff I've cooked myself though!

Went to car boot this morning, OH got 2 books which he is happy with, but will probably never read!
I got a brand new Winsor & Newton small painting box 12 colours & small enough to use as a sketch box for £5 to say I was pleased is an understatement.

oooooh I LOVE this thread, this is totally up my alley! I frequent my local St Vincent De Paul (Vinnies here) on a weekly basis and on Monday I scored a lovely baby GAP denim dress for Ruby (six months) pumpkin patch jeans, a whole bag of toys and three pairs of shoes (fancy expensive looking high heels, for if I ever go out again lol) for less than 20 bucks!

Re: Charity Shop Bargains...
well ackchewerlley BJM said less than $20 so it could be $15.34 or $19.73 or many other variants.
Re: Charity Shop Bargains...
Oh stop it you two......
I got a very nice length of very expensive material, unused, from Oxfam for £2.....looked it up and it is £20 per metre!
I got 3 metres ..and its lovely stuff, and still had the seller label on...so not even used!
Wonder why people get stuff, then don't use it?

Re: Charity Shop Bargains...
Agreed but $20 Aus would still be £11.50 GBP until the exhange rate changes, whether bjm paid less or not...
