I like the green and white Penguin crime fiction too. And when we re decorated our front room apricot, I planned to put all my old Penguin books from when they still had orange spines there. Got home to find a row of Terry Pratchett's had beaten me to it!

Bodum teapot, one that has the plunger like a caff, cafffit, one of them coffee thingies...

£1 - having looked around I've found them on the interweb for anything up to £50...

Oh bother - I should have kept the one we got rid of and sold it on ebay...whoops, I mean I should have given it to a worthy charity!! (I'm well-known in our family as being a bit of a tea fascist, and preferred a traditional pot - but that's just me being difficult!)

Nice thick Isaac Asimov book that I have not read........yet for £1.50.

Anyone else want one of those teapots Spar is on about £1 in Pondland.

I explained that the other day, no they aren't...

The Poundland ones are about as much use as chocolate tea pots, I've had 2 of the things...

I got some fab books about rush weaving, natural toys making and what are called " country crafts " (potpourri, weaving, lampshade making, collages, wood carving etc)

£3 for the 4 books, all out of print, all absolute gems full of ideas AND obviously all came from the same lady as there are notes in the margins and her name in the front. Would guess she was quite elderly, from thebeautiful copperplate script.....the books all date from the 50's and early 60's

Wonder what will happen to MY extensive library, after I die? Hope it goes to as good a home....

was at a yard sale rather than a charity shop per se but bargains nonetheless:

Got a full size cast iron mangle - needs a bit of fettling but in full working order. Gorgeous it is, although I had to wheel it home which was a.) heavy work and b.) very loud and squeaky, much to the ire of neighbours.

Also a neat outdoor meat safe, some little milk/cream jugs, a wooden sword and shield, a flying fairy launcher and a big flan tin with a removable base - really huge one. All for £30.
They had a huge amount of riding tack and paraphernalia at near zero prices - saddles, harnesses, boots, the lot. Couldn't justify it though.

Unbelieveably jealous of your mangle purchase Billy, I've been looking for one for ages (especially as our washing machine is kaput at the moment) but they're selling for silly money to stoopid people who want to use them as (hottor of horrors) garden ornaments! One day I'm sure one will turn up if I'm patient - I hope!

Today's bootfair haul included a set of boxed amd unused recycled wine bottle wine glasses for a quid, a nutbrown sandwich toasting iron for a quid, a wonderful portugeuse copper cooking pot called a cataplana (£1.50) and a roger phillips book for 50p.

HALF price vintage buttons still on the card, and a beautiful sterling silver bracelet for 50 cents, it was very tarnished but when I polished it up, SURPRISE! (Sorry 'bout the huge pic, had a problem)

What a bargain! And very beautiful. Do you often get things like this in charity shops in Oz, or did this slip through the net? Here, the larger and more organised charities have experts who sort through the stuff and send anything good off for auction (which is good because the charity gets the funds they need, but it takes some of the hunter-gatherer joy out of going round the shops because you don't feel that you will find any treasures.) There are two charity shops in Evesham which are good though, because they're for small local charities, and it is more exciting to poke around them.

I go every week to my local community centre and they sell everything cheap, they don't care what brand or how old, they are there for the community. I recently bought a solid pine six seater dining table and chairs from them for 30 dollars! And I bought a whole bag of boys pjs for my son for five bucks Smile

Definitely find the best finds in the local hospice shops rather than the "chain charity shops" IYKWIM.

yes I find that too - our childrens hospice shop is the best for bargains - the local blind charity however is dearer than the clothes shop next door !!

Gorgeous bracelet BJM,

having now done a bit of charity shop hopping I find that things do cycle & one that is good for books for a while changes to good for clothes, & then housewares so while I can spend up to an hour wandering around on a quick day, when the cycle changes it can take all morning, or afternoon, but I have found the best time to go around is a Friday as they are filling the shelves for the weekend...
